I hate it when they breakup the lines and say free! I really thought  it was Free calls and text to Globe/TM, albeit, unli call and text.

Good thing this ‘free’ is really free this time unlike the (previous?) G-Plans (non-consumable plans)!!!

^consumable amounts can ONLY be used for calls, text, and mobile surfing. Share-A-Load, wallpaper downloads, ringtone downloads, and others will be charged on top of your bill!

Part 3: Explanation.

You get to consume the amount that you pay for plus freebies unlike the G-Plans (that I think Globe is still offering).

Gotta love these consumable plans! I am currently on a 250 consumable extension line and it is really flexible! (but now I’m planning to switch to this)

Here are some examples.

What you get: unlimited calls and texts to only 1 Globe/TM number and consume 199 for other things*

Part 4: Verdict.

If you are on a tight budget and  only call and text people sometimes and have a significant other subscribed to Globe the Plan 299 (E) is perfect because you get to enjoy unlimited texting and calling to your significant other and  use the 199 for texting or calling your family members and other friends or surfing the net (Google Maps navigation, checking email, or Google searching on the fly).

I like it and I set it as an example because my bill last month sky rocketed to 850 pesos instead of the usual 250, because my significant other likes to ask for load and avail of UNLITXT and of course I have to reply to all the messages sent to me.

I don’t text a lot and most of my load is consumed when replying to people with UNLITXT!

Part 5: Other information (FYI)

• Lock-in period is 1 year for a subscriber who did not avail of a handset. 2 years for those who availed for a handset.
• There is a early termination fee of P550 if you want to cancel out early. (You still need to pay for the handset if you avail of it)
• Unused freebies will not carry-over to the next month.
• You can change your freebies as often as every month. (let’s say your significant other does not want to load up on July, then opt for A instead of E for July)

When I was passing by Greenbelt 3 to get to Greenbelt 1, I noticed a “new” Globe hub on the way. It’s beside Powerbooks, in front of b_connected, near Healthy Options, etc..

It’s nothing new, I pass by Globe stores all the time but this one got my attention.

It’s an advertisement for the Samsung Galaxy S!

So I went in. Circled the display looking for the phone. And at the middle there is the beautiful phone. Three of them

I picked one and meddled with it.

It’s bigger than the iPhone but a bit lighter and thinner (than 3Gs?).

It’s a shiny piece of black glass. And I mean shiny.

The screen is all black when the screen is off but when it turns on all you can notice is the screen and nothing but the screen!

The screen is AMOLED and it’s very very nice! Everything is crisp and vibrant!

And very captivating as well

But unlike the new iPhone 4, you can still see the pixels upon REAL CLOSE UP!

If only the phone was configured with the Android Market and WiFi I would have run some benchmarks nyahahaha~!

I wanted to play more with the phone but I was already fondling it for about 20 minutes. I never cared about the iPad that was in front of me :-p

I wanted to say more about this phone but I had spent only so little time with it.

I’m definitely gonna buy this phone maybe December or on my birthday, March.

I’m still waiting for the price to settle down

Unless of course the Droid X will be released here with a better competitive price by that time. I won’t hesitate to buy the Droid X if it’s around 30k, give or take 5k.

And I’m gonna be waiting for this dock.

It’s really drooling! hahaha

As for the price…

I asked the sales lady on when is the availability of the Galaxy S.

She told me it was available since June 3 on pre-order. And the price is: Php 31,000!

She said that you can also avail of this phone at 0% interest on a 12-month payment.

I also asked if when I will get the phone. She said that it’s on “reservation with the source” and you can get the phone in 1-2 weeks.

Now, I don’t know if the price she said was on contract. I hope it isn’t!

I don’t care if it’s locked to Globe. I’m on Globe anyway.

And on December, I hope they bundle the dock with the phone or something.

And that dock! I hope it’s gonna be cheaper than what I’m thinking.

There’s a lot of hoping going on here… hehe’

Yes, I am now an Android user and I love it!!

Android 1.5 on my Samsung Galaxy Spica is almost as good as the iPhone exprience. I can’t wait to update to Android 2.1!

Samsung with Android isn’t so bad in combination.. Anything with Windows Mobile is!! Damn, I wasted money with that Samsung Omnia II!! So slugish after 3 months use…

That’s another story and post. Anyway….

If only the Sony Ericson X10 is proven to have multi-touch then I’ll upgrade to that this year. If not, then I’ll wait for the Samsung Galaxy S price to go down.. (expected to cost around 40 to 45 PHP) or the rumored Motorola Shadow be official. The rumored specs makes me drool! LOL!!

After Villar wins the Google Trends search query, this time how many results do you think your candidate have?

We’re all here for the results right?I used 3 test for this.

1. Google home page type-in suggestions results
2. Specific matching  key word search — where you put double quotes on the keywords to search the documents with specifically matching words: both words has to appear side-by-side
3. Normal key word search — where a word can be inside the document with another word but both words may or may not be side-by-side

TEST3: Generic Google search: without double quotes

Winner: ERAP!!!

OVERALL WINNER: ERAP!!!!

This shows that many people generate content with Erap Estrada as a topic. Even though Manny Villar was the winner in Google Trends he didn’t have enough content recently to generate results. But that may change…

I really don’t want to talk about politics as much as possible but when technology is involved, it’s a different story.

Most people don’t know this Google service. It’s called Google Trends. It graphs the number of search queries of a particular set of keywords in a given amount of time.

I used the following keywords taken from the top 5 Presidential candidates taken from the PRESIDENTIAL PREFERENCE FOR THE 2010 ELECTIONS, PHILIPPINES survey in the NICKNAME SURNAME format. Of course, searching for ‘villar’ only or ‘aquino’ only will add irrelevant results as ‘villar’ is a Spanish term used across the globe and there are many ‘aquino’: kris, cory, and ninoy.

• noynoy aquino
• manny villar
• erap estrada
• gibo teodoro
• eddie villanueva

And VILLAR leads!! (data taken February 3, 2010 2AM PHT)

The data is taken from the last 12 months of Google searches in the Philippines for the keywords above.

The search query spiked at the time where Villar (as you all know) released his ‘Si Villar ang tunay na mahirap’ jingle. (more on this later)

Aquino still dominates the News on average. (see the lower section of the image)

Estrada and Villanueva does not have enough search volume for ranking for the Philippines for the past 12 months.

Going internationally we can see that Villar still leads and the other pick up. But Estrada still lags behind search volume for the past 12 months.

Although we can see a little rise in Estrada’s query at the beginning of the month, it was not enough for ranking.

We can also see that Teodoro did not take enough traffic despite Ondoy (September). It was just mid-November that he gained traffic. It is when Arroyo endorses Teodorodo’s presidential bid.

Looking back in time and seeing the bigger picture. International, all year search.

We can see a huge spike on Estrada’s search on 2007. That is actually when Estrada was on trial.

Villar also spikes from time to time starting 2008 (Manny Villar Cup) [some sort of tournament], early 2009 (“early” presidential campaign), then the rest is history (C5 extension).

On the Philippines we can also see the same.

Aquino didn’t racked enough traffic for himself on Google maybe because there isn’t too much controversy about him.. Although he racks up news article than search queries..

One thing’s for sure. Villar’s popularity in Google (in my opinion) is not because of his achievements, not because of his scandals.. but because people makes fun of him and his gimmicks.

And even a Villar jingle inspired song that talks about the use of a 3rd party program in Ragnarok.

A comment on the chipmunks version said “sana po pag po kayo nanalo sana po dahan dahan lng po sa pag bawi sa laki ng gastos nyo sa commercial nyo salamat po..sana huag? lahat ubusin yun pera ng mahal kong bayan.” (if you win, I hope you would take the huge amount that you spent for your commercials slowly.. i hope you don’t take all of the country’s riches.)

I do hope this 2010 elections (and succeeding elections) turn out to be well. I really hate the Philippines especially when election season comes.. Makes me want to leave the country every 6 years… T_T

If I had this I wouldn’t be using it much like the iPod touch that I’ve bought for my mom. It hasn’t been used for 7 months.. lol

I did enjoy reading those rumors.

It’s sad that something that would have been cool didn’t make their way to the device.

Some things like: built-in SD card expansion slot, removable batteries, front facing camera.

But looking at Apple’s trend. They don’t want to make people to open things, it complicates things for lesser knowledgeable people, or hard to pick up on things people.

I think I’ll just buy the latest iPod touch… XD

It’s gonna revolutionize gaming eventually with partnership with GameLoft and EA games.

The name is ok with me but some feel awkward especially if it sound like women’s feminine napkins…

The thing looks more like a digital photo frame to me than a tablet.

The frame spacing (screen to edge) distance is really handy while holding the device. Some of the readers don’t like it but it’s quite useful in holding the device.

What amazed me is the 10 hour battery life. It wasn’t stated if it’s for games, surfing the net, video, or playing music straight but still. And than 1 month standby time is just simply crazy.

Given the size of the device, it’s really great that it doesn’t have a back camera. It’s awkward to see people in the street point that big device around. Although a front-facing camera would be big BIG plus.

I won’t buy this now because, as you know, Apple has a track record of upgrading things quite fast.

Basically the device is a big iPod touch. With word processing feature and paint.

I would want this if someone gives it to me. LOL

What I liked about this is the customized background of the home screen. I would have guessed that it had a bigger icons. But I did not imagine it having a dock at the bottom similar to OS X.

This kinda pisses me off… I just updated to the LATEST Firefox browser. And a little browser detection script on the YAHOO servers are not updated…
I know 3.6 is more recent than 3.0 but I know now that YAHOO doesn’t know that.. O.o

Now I can view the news… Grrr…

The screen size is definitely a plus. And it’s AMOLED! Another pluses here are digital compass, 802.11n, bundled 4GB, Android 2.1, and the 1GHz processor. (This processor is faster than my netbook lol)

Take note though that this doesn’t have a front-facing camera (like the iPhone) unlike other smartphones. Although who uses them anyway? I have had 3G phones with front facing camera since 2007 (k800i, k600i, w980i, Omnia II) and just used it once (k600i) back in 2007.

I had contacted Globe about this but they haven’t replied to me. But come to think of it they are offering the iPhone so its competitor maybe out of the picture. Smart? Probably.

This could be the iPhone killer some of us had been waiting for. Or maybe not.

My reason why the iPhone could not have a real competitor is the responsiveness of the OS. I own an iPod touch and have used the iPhone. And currently owning an Omnia II. Even though the Omnia II has a faster processor and a bigger ram than my iPod touch, it’s sluggish. Takes me 2-3 seconds to open the 3-page home page. Than the 1-2 seconds 4-pager iPod touch. And it’s not just the home page, just about everywhere you are to open an app.

Currently the Nexus One is not available in the Philippines but I hope it would be anytime sooner. I’ll definitely buy one (or two) of these. And ditch my Omnia II.

I should have waited for this! But back then when I bought my Omnia II (a month ago!) this was just a rumor.

I really do hope this becomes available here in the Philippines before my birthday! (Mar 22) hahaha

Btw, I could seem to make work the GPS function of my Omnia II for geo tagging (without the using assistance of cell towers and connectivity via 2g/3g).
