Reasons to not want Sky Broadband

Coming from PLDT Business line for 4 years.. I got what we want from PLDT. Download anything and everything… Continuous connection.. etc.. but all that has its caveats… And I’ll just talk about it some other time.

This is about Sky Broadband service…

We were excited about the new ISP (Internet Service Provider) because it promises to be fast. And it is.. but it has its down falls.. and they are good reasons to not subscribe.

  1. Epic reason: You cannot download from Rapidshare, Mega upload, etc.. (those file sharing service that tracks your IP address) and other sites like 4chan. It will always tell you that you have exceeded their download limit.. please wait for # minutes to download again… etc.. even if it’s your first time visiting the site.
  2. Connection cuts off sporadically.. but not always… [bad if you’re downloading a big file without the use of download managers]
  3. If the connection is slow.. its REALLY slow…
  4. It’s not “user friendly” to share [you have to be technically inclined to tweak advanced settings]
  5. Customer service.

I think you’ve read about me blabbing about concerns 1 – 4 on my comments on my brother’s multiply. But now I’m really pissed at that customer rep that I just talked a while ago.

I usually get what I want when talking to a call center agent. Like the first time I inquired as to why I cannot download from Rapid Share. The agent told me what to do, what needs to be done. And it worked..

ME: di ako makagamit ng rapidshare. [simpleng impormasyon di ba?]
CA: sir regarding sa rapidshare kailangan nyo pong gumamit ng proxy dyan. bigay ko po sa inyo yung IP… [edi binigay nya]
ME: ok sige thanks.

So I did what he told me and boom.. It worked.. So I’m happy.

And now… Di na gumagana yung sinabi nung CA na iyon kasi matagal na yun at nag “upgrade” na ng system yung Sky…

So I had to ask for another proxy setting. Kasi mag dodownload kami ng bagong map ng DoTA.

[in fairness mabilis silang sumagot ngayon ah.. 4 na ring lang]

AM: (answering machine) if you’re a postpaid cable subscriber press one…
ME: (antay)
AM: if you’re a prepaid cable subscriber press two..
ME: …
AM: if you’re a sky broadband subscriber press three…
ME: (pindot three)
AM: (ring… ring… ring… ring…)
CA: Thank you for calling Sky Broadband this is Jon-jon speaking how may I help you? (Oo, maliwanag ang pagkakasabi nya ng intro nya to the point na naaalala ko pa ito.. [Hindi ko kasi inaalala pangalan nila eh])
ME: May bago ba kayong proxy? Kasi hindi ako makapag download sa rapidshare.. (straight to the point di ba)
CA: Sir, hindi po kami gumagamit ng proxy eh… Wala pong available na proxy… [ano daw? hindi gumagamit pero walang available/ O.o]
ME: So, hindi ako makakapag download sa rapidshare ngayon? [mainit na ulo ko]
CA: Opo.
ME: (baba agad ng telepono) [hindi ko na pinakinggan iba pa nyang sasabihin kasi straight na naman sagot nya eh]

Ay oo nga… wala ngang proxy.. kaya pala may

Oo, wala talaga akong patawad sa mga call center agent.. sila na nga lang mahihingan mo ng tulong sila pa yung kung anu-ano sinasabi…

Talagang pagkatapos nitong lock-down period babalik PLDT DSL na ako.. or maybe bayan dsl..

    Go with bayan dsl!!! it’s GREAT service – internet and customer!!! yeah i have the same problems with Sky Broadband. i don’t like PLDT – my problem with PLDT is they require phone line that costs at least 600 Php….

    ps. tama ka sa mga call center agent sa Sky. nag email ako sa kanila about not being able to download from those sites:

    ME: “hindi po ako makapagdownload sa”
    AGENT: “sir kailangan nyo po ng premium account sa mga sites tulad ng hotfile and rapidshare” (talaga? kasi sa Bayan DSL walang ganun problema eh)
    ME: “pero as a free user we should still be able to download, we just have a limit and waiting time”
    AGENT: “kasi po dynamic ip kami sir. nadedetect po ng website ung IP address – baka may gumamit ng IP mo bago mo nagamit at nagdownload cla sa same website”
    ME: “dynamic IP din ang Bayan DSL, pero hindi pa ako nakaencounter ng ganun problema sa kanila. paano pag nagpastatic IP ako?”
    AGENT: “hindi po cya makakatulong sir”
    ME: (i hung up the phone)

      i dunno if good ang bayan dsl when it comes to net games.. yung net games kasi na nilalaro namin is hosted in PLDT data centers (level up games) so i really don’t know kung mabilis ang connection ng bayan dsl network sa network ng PLDT…

    ang experience ko po sa sky ay ganito, una sign up ako for the free 15 day trial period. after a week i accepted the service kse i was able to launch at nalalaro ko yung game na tanging nilalaro ko which is AVA sa CS na mas maganda ki hamak ang grafix). at partly para mkahabol sa promo na upgrade ng speed from 1 mbps to 1.5mbps at P999/month for 1 year. after nun nahirapan na ko i launch yung game, take note during the trial period any time of the day nalalaro ko yung game since talagang siniguro ko na kaya nya iaccess yung game. nung nag sign up na ko for the service, ayun 5am ng umaga ko na lang nalalaro yung game hanggang bandang 9am dahil may work pa ko ng 12pm at tumataas na din ang ping masyado,5am 200ms then 9am almost 500ms na ang ping. scam?

      probably it is.. hindi ko lang nalagay dyan yung story about sa game play namin.
      for the first few months, 2-3 months OK yung connection namin with other players… mabilis at hindi pa putol putol. after nun ayun.. SOBRANG bagal na siya halos parang naka smart bro na lowest plan habang umuulan. Hindi na kami makapag laro nung Grand Chase, nahihirapan sa pag patch. Ayaw na rin mag connect sa PVP rooms kasi lag masyado.. It went on until March…
      ok na siya ngayon kahit papano, pero we’re still “laggy” sa side ng kalaban kahit hindi naman sa amin..
      pero yung issue sa megaupload, et al, is still present and really pisses me off.
